| Physical Education Policies: |
| Physical Education is an important part of the general educational program that contributes, primarily through movement experiences, to the total growth and development of each student. The California Physical Education Standards guide daily lessons. These learning standards are: motor skills and movement concepts; development, assessment and maintenance of health-related physical fitness and performance; personal responsibility and social interactions during physical activities. The goals of the physical education program are: |
| 1. To provide learning experiences that will help each student become competent in a wide variety of body management and physical skills. |
| 2. To provide students with the opportunity to develop and maintain an adequate level of health-related physical fitness. |
| 3. To provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge related to individual and team sports, motor skill development, and fitness maintenance. |
| 4. To provide an environment where students can acquire desirable social standards and ethical concepts, such as good sportsmanship and fair play, cooperation, respect for others, and trying one’s best. |
| 5. To provide an environment where students can acquire knowledge of safety skills and habits, and develop an awareness of safety with respect to themselves and others. |

Course Description
|
| PE 1 and 2 |
|
This course was designed to further develop team sports and gymnastic motor skills and aquatic fundamental skills. Rules, regulations, game strategies, and safety are emphasized for each activity. Social skill development is taught throughout the entire curriculum. The students learn the principles of fitness and experience its five components. Students assess their personal wellness level through a health-related fitness test and self-study. |
| PE 3 and 4 |
|
This course provides students with an opportunity to further develop individual and dual sport motor skills, dance, outdoor education, and self defense fundamentals. Rules, regulations, game strategies, and safety are emphasized for each activity. Social skills development is taught throughout the entire curriculum. |
| PE 5 Elective - Weight training |
| This will give students the opportunity for regular, supervised workouts while learning power techniques and safety. Muscle structure and movement will be taught along with specific lifts, which develop each muscle group.Students have the opportunity to design and develop an appropriate personal fitness program that enables them to achieve a desired level of fitness. |
